The purpose of META:PHI is to support clinicians in delivering high-quality care to patients with substance use disorders in all care settings.

This is achieved through:

  • Providing opportunities for clinician education, training, mentorship, and networking
  • Running an online community of practice for addiction questions and case discussions
  • Facilitating the creation of integrated care pathways for addiction between emergency departments, withdrawal management services, rapid access addiction medicine (RAAM) clinics, and primary care

META:PHI was originally funded in 2015 by Adopting Research to Improve Care (ARTIC) as a seven-site pilot, and was then rolled out in Toronto with support from the Toronto Central LHIN. In 2018-2019, the team received a secondary spread grant from ARTIC to support sites across the province opening RAAM clinics and creating local integrated care pathways for addiction. META:PHI is now continuing this work with support from Women's College Hospital.
